China Cracks down on Doping Agents Criminalizing Use, Manufacturing, and Distribution of Performance Enhancing
Drugs
Third-party certification and testing will be perhaps nowhere more important than in China. In extending its fight against doping, China in November announced a new crackdown on performance enhancing drugs that includes criminal punishments against athletes and coaches who use them. The policy extends to producers and distributors
of banned substances and products that contain them, which is of vital consideration to the nutrition industry. The new law went into effect on January 1.
BSCG strongly advises that any dietary supplement, sports nutrition, or related company engaged in raw material or finished product operations in China have their products tested by a trusted third-party certification provider to ensure protection in this new environment. BSCG stands ready to safeguard supplement companies and their
personnel from potential impacts of the new policy in China.
NDMA Contamination in Drugs Should be Examined in Dietary Supplements
In early April, the FDA (U.S. Food & Drug Administration) announced it had requested manufacturers immediately
withdraw all prescription and over-thecounter drugs from the marketplace. Zantac and generic products containing ranitidine were recalled. In higher-than-room temperatures, these products may expose consumers to the carcinogen NDMA.
As it happened, in January, BSCG began developing a testing standard for NDMA and has been working to build a method that can soon be added to our testing of products enrolled in the BSCG Certified Drug Free program. BSCG remains the only third-party certification provider to include testing for prescription, over-the-counter,
and illicit drugs not banned in sport.Read more about the FDA’s recent move to protect consumers from NDMA

BSCG Athlete Assurance Program to Support the New VADA Supplement Safety Initiative
Third-party dietary supplement certification and testing is essential for athletes who want to ensure their products are not tainted with drugs banned in sport. Testing is not just available to brands. Athletes, teams, and
leagues can get supplement products screened for WADA Prohibited Substances and more in the BSCG Athlete Assurance
Program. The Athlete Assurance Program provides the same world-class protection that our Certified Drug Free program offers to brands in the nutrition industry. BSCG isexcited to offer the program to boxers inthe Voluntary Anti-Doping Association(VADA) as part of the new VADASupplement Safety Initiative.”

BSCG Certified Drug Free Has You Covered
Years ago, a careful review by BSCG of the official FDA (U.S. Food & Drug Administration) database of tainted supplement products revealed that 26% of the problematic drugs were banned in sport, while a staggering 74% of the problematic drugs were not. That’s why BSCG decided to expand its testing of supplements to include prescription, overthe-counter, and illicit drugs.
Today BSCG remains the only leading certification provider to test in these categories. With consumers looking for safe supplement products, this distinction matters now more than than ever. Learn more about the rigorous BSCG Certified Drug Free program.
