Supplement Certification Provider Offers New Safeguards

Apr 30, 2018

TRUSTED SUPPLEMENT CERTIFICATION PROVIDER BSCG OFFERS NEW SAFEGUARDS FOR ATHLETES, CONSUMERS AND ANIMALS Los Angeles– BSCG (Banned Substances Control Group), a leading independent dietary supplement certification provider for more than a decade, announced today that it has broadened its services to include a range of new protections. The company’s expanded offerings include a broadened testing menu that is unique to the industry, targeted protection for consumers and animals, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) audits and label verification and contaminant testing. In addition to its comprehensive and finely tuned testing menu for competitive athletes, BSCG will now provide testing for an array of problematic prescription and over-the-counter drugs in supplement products to help protect consumers at large. BSCG becomes the first supplement certification company to extend its protections to focus on drugs relevant to the general consumer. “Since the FDA was finding a lot drugs not banned in sport during their own testing of products, we decided to include those drugs and related substances in our menu,” said Oliver Catlin, BSCG President. “By adding these drugs to our supplement certification program, BSCG is addressing important concerns in the supplement industry and adding significant protection for all those who consume our certified supplements.” The expanded testing menu will include more than 392 compounds; 207 banned in sport and 185 prescription and over-the-counter drugs not banned in sport. This menu offers the broadest protection available in the supplement certification industry against substances prohibited by WADA, NFL, MLB, PGA, LPGA, NHL, MLS, NCAA, NASCAR and others. BSCG not only becomes the first certification program to safeguard against drugs not banned in sport but it is doing so in a sizable way. In addition, BSCG becomes the first group to offer a comprehensive screen for equine and canine supplements and drug products to protect horses and dogs. The company now tests such products for approximately 1,200 substances banned by the leading authority, the Federation Equine International (FEI). “Animals, including those that race for sport, are consuming supplements at increasing rates and contamination issues are a growing concern, so we wanted to provide protection in the animal arena as well,” said Catlin. “We are pleased to be the first dietary supplement certification provider to offer testing for this expanded menu of drugs.” BSCG has also added to its certification program a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) audit and annual testing for label claims and contamination. With the guidelines of the FDA’s 21 C.F.R. 111- G.M.P. during the past decade has come a renewed focus on ensuring that supplement products meet ingredient and finished product specifications for identity, purity, strength and composition and that they have been appropriately tested for potential contamination. “Supplement authorities and companies, sporting regulators and athletes and all consumers deserve to know that a supplement certification program not only ensures that a product is drug free but that it meets label claim and contamination specifications and standards,” said Catlin. “BSCG recognizes the importance of these quality control elements and is pleased to include them as part our supplement certification services.” BSCG is a highly regarded, science-based, third-party certification provider of dietary supplements founded in 2004 by renowned sports anti-doping pioneer Don Catlin, M.D., his son, industry leader Oliver Catlin, and respected Los Angeles attorney Ryan Connolly. The industry’s complete quality control solution, the BSCG Certified Drug Free®program allows manufacturers to establish their brands as safe, reputable and drug free and helps consumers and athletes make informed supplement choices.
