Our certification and testing for banned substances and illicit drugs in dietary supplements and natural products can be applied at any level of the industry including finished products, raw materials / ingredients, and manufacturing facilities.
The BSCG Certified Drug Free® program offers the broadest protection available against the presence of banned substances in sport; like those on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List, as well as other prescription, over-the-counter and illicit drugs. Finished Products – BSCG Certified Drug Free® – Details and Process
BSCG Certified Drug Free® certification and testing for banned substances offers the maximum drug-testing and toxicology protection to athletes and other elite professionals like police, fire, military, and others who want to ensure their supplements are free of drugs that are prohibited in sport and other prescription, OTC or illicit drugs. Finished products are tested for our full menu of 491+ drugs including WADA Prohibited Substances and illicit, over-the-counter, and prescription drugs not banned in sport. A 21 C.F.R. 111 Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) compliance assessment, ingredient and toxicology review are other key elements. Ongoing testing is required with occasional off-the-shelf random testing included.
- Finished production lots are tested for our full menu of 491+ drugs including WADA Prohibited Substances and illicit, over-the-counter, and prescription drugs not banned in sport.
- Every finished batch, or one batch monthly, must be certified with random blind sampling of participating products.
- Testing of off-the-shelf finished products is conducted by BSCG at random.

Raw Material / Ingredient – BSCG Certified Drug Free® – Details and Process
BSCG Certified Drug Free® raw material/ingredient certification and testing for banned substances brings our protection down a level in the manufacturing chain to ensure that the components of dietary supplements or functional foods are free of drug contamination prior to formulation in a finished product. Ingredients lots are tested for our full menu of 496+ drugs including WADA Prohibited Substances and illicit, over-the-counter, and prescription drugs not banned in sport. A 21 C.F.R. 111 – GMP quality control process review, ingredient and supplier review, and a toxicology assessment are other key elements. Ongoing testing is required.

- A minimum of one lot quarterly must be certified to remain compliant.

Manufacturing Facilities – BSCG Certified Drug Free® – Details and Process
BSCG Certified Drug Free® manufacturing facility certification and testing for banned substances verifies that supplement contract manufacturers are able to produce products that are free of drug contamination and qualify raw materials and ingredients so that they are free of drug contamination. Fifteen finished products are randomly sampled and tested one to three times per year for 491+ drugs including WADA Prohibited Substances and illicit, over-the-counter, and prescription drugs not banned in sport. Frequency of testing is determined based on size of facility.
- 15 finished product lots are selected at random and tested for our full menu of 491+ drugs including WADA Prohibited Substances and illicit, over-the-counter, and prescription drugs not banned in sport.
- The above testing is conducted once per year for facilities up to 25,000 sq ft, twice per year for facilities in the 25,000 – 100,000 sq ft range, three times per year for facilities over 100,000 sq ft.
- Additional testing of finished product lots that follow production of products containing any known banned substances or pharmaceutical agents of concern.
- Raw material / ingredient list and product list review and risk evaluation.
