Whether trick-or-treat is able to happen or not in your neighborhood this year, it’s a much-loved tradition in the United States. As a company with a CBD supplement, you don’t want to be left holding a bag of products that consumers may question.Consumers want and need to be able to trust the products available to them. That’s why certification and testing of CBD products is so crucial.
BSCG Certified CBD was the first broad-spectrum third-party certification program in the world for CBD products and is a unique all-in-one program that offers brands, manufacturers, and ingredient suppliers a complete compliance solution. The BSCG Certified CBD program checks for illegal levels of THC as well as environmental contaminants including heavy metals, pesticides, solvents and microiological agents. To protect consumers and athletes, the program screens for 276 drugs on the WADA Prohibited List and 220 over-the-counter, illicit, or prescription drugs, offering the broadest protection available in the industry today.
A new study published in the Sept. 23 issue of Neurology Clinical Practice reveals serious problems with dietary supplements marketed as brain boosters in the U.S. All products analyzed contained drugs categorized as prescription in other countries, three-quarters of the products used labels that were inaccurate, and some of the products contained banned substances not listed on their labels.
In May 2019, BSCG made available to the public the BSCG Dietary Supplement Advisory List that includes a listing of questionable dietary supplement ingredients, including more than 30 nootropics that are actually pharmaceutical drugs. We wanted to give stakeholders including consumers, nutrition experts, anti-doping agencies, and responsible members of the supplement industry information that could empower them to make the best choices. As a policy, BSCG does not allow any of the ingredients included on this list to be contained in the products that it certifies.
This new study also points to the critical need for third-party testing and certification of supplements and related products. BSCG Certified Drug Free is the supplement industry’s gold standard certification. With this program, BSCG tests for almost 500 substances, including banned substances in sport, and is the only leading certification provider to also cover problematic prescription, over-the-counter, and illicit drugs.Whether you’re a product brand, supplement manufacturer, manufacturing facility,or an ingredient supplier, we’ve got you covered.
